Enova invests USD 112 million in maritime hydrogen projects.

Norwegian state-owned Enova has earmarked an investment of USD 112 million to support the development of hydrogen-related projects in the maritime sector.
The initiative includes the establishment of five renewable hydrogen production plants off the Norwegian coast, with an investment of USD 66.9 million, and support for seven hydrogen and ammonia-fuelled vessels, with an investment of USD 45.13 million.
As the manager of the Climate and Energy Fund, Enova is a state-owned company under the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Energy. With the success of this project, Norway will establish itself as a driving force for emission-free solutions in maritime transport, said Nils Kristian Nakstad, CEO of Enova. Climate and Environment Minister Espen Barth Eide added that hydrogen represents an excellent opportunity for Norway and that Enova’s support will enable further and necessary technological development.
The creation of the five renewable hydrogen production plants will establish an infrastructure that will enable technological progress in the industry. In addition, these plants will be able to provide fuel for the hydrogen-powered ships supported by Enova. In total, the centres will have the capacity to supply 35 to 40 ships with hydrogen.
