💡 ATOM H2 has improved an existing process by focusing on system modularity and the conversion of hydrogen into a solid-state stack. This approach reduces the volume, pressure and safety issues associated with hydrogen storage. Using hydrides, combinations of hydrogen with a transition metal, they have succeeded in transforming hydrogen from a gas to a solid state, thus eliminating additional risks and costs.

🌟 The European Commission will launch its second renewable hydrogen auction on 3 December, in the framework of the European Hydrogen Bank. This auction will have a budget of up to €1.2 billion, financed with revenues from the EU Emissions Trading Scheme through the Innovation Fund. In addition, Brussels foresees a specific allocation of funding for producers who sell their renewable hydrogen to buyers in the maritime sector, thus accelerating decarbonisation in this sector. Awardees will receive a fixed premium in euros per kilogram of renewable hydrogen produced over ten years of operation, helping to close the gap between production costs and the market price.

🌟 The H2Accelerate collaboration has published its latest policy paper, highlighting the actions and support needed from the European Union (EU) to meet the CO2 targets set by the European Commission. The updated targets call for a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-duty vehicles by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. While H2Accelerate acknowledges the efforts of policy makers, notably the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), it notes that uncertainty about the long-term business case is preventing the necessary large-scale investments.

🚧 The San Roque-Los Barrios WWTP, currently under construction, will be key for the production of green hydrogen in Cepsa’s energy park. 🌍 The regenerated water from this plant will be used almost entirely for this park, while the Algeciras plant will supply the rest of the industrial supplies of the industrial park. 🏭 This will allow the development of EDP’s H2 project at the former Los Barrios thermal power plant and will cover the needs of other companies such as Acerinox.
🔗 According to José Manuel Alcántara, general manager of Arcgisa, all the WWTPs will have an interconnected system to adapt production according to needs. 🌱 This infrastructure is crucial for green hydrogen initiatives such as Cepsa’s valley and EDP’s investment in Los Barrios, increasing industrial water consumption by almost 25% and the total of Campo de Gibraltar by 8%.
